How to play Step Quest
Step Quest turns your daily steps into a space campaign. Every step charges Step Energy. Spend it on crates of ship parts, build up your fighter, and send it into battles that fight themselves. Walk more, and your ship gets stronger.
Getting started
When you first open the app, it asks to read your step count from Health Connect, and nothing else. Your steps stay on your phone.
- No Health Connect yet? Tap Get Health Connect, install it, then Check again.
- Connected, but no steps showing? Something has to count your steps and share them with Health Connect. Open Samsung Health, Google Fit, Fitbit or your watch’s app and turn on syncing to Health Connect. On Android 14 and later, Health Connect can count the phone’s own steps.
- Skipped it? That’s fine. The game works without steps; you just won’t earn Step Energy. A card on Home lets you allow access later.
Then pick a daily goal and a callsign, and you’re in. The first time you connect, Step Quest also reads up to 30 days of past steps, so your Step history isn’t empty. Those days aren’t paid out.
Earning Step Energy
- Steps up to your goal pay about 1 Step Energy for every 6 steps. Steps past the goal still count, at half rate.
- To collect, tap the glowing ship in the ring on Home.
- Yesterday’s Energy stays claimable until the end of today, so late syncs from a watch aren’t lost.
Your daily goal
Choose anything from 2,000 to 30,000 steps (5,000 to start). Reaching it gives you a free daily crate, and a bigger goal earns a better one: a Supply crate from 5,000 steps and a Relic crate from 10,000. Change the goal in Settings → Daily goal. A new goal applies from the next day.
Streaks
Every day you reach your goal adds one to your streak, and a longer streak multiplies the Step Energy you earn:
| Streak | Bonus |
|---|---|
| 3 days | ×1.25 |
| 7 days | ×1.5 |
| 14 days | ×2 |
| 30 days | ×3 |
Miss a day and the streak resets, unless you hold a streak shield. A shield is used up automatically and keeps your streak going. You can hold two; buy them in the Shop. Days when step access is off are paused: they don’t add to your streak or break it.
Crates and parts
Open crates in the Shop with Step Energy: Scrap, Supply and Relic, from cheapest to best. Opening five or ten at once costs less. Relic crates guarantee an Epic or better within 10 opens.
Parts come in six rarities: Trash, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary.
- Equip parts on your ship in the Ship tab.
- Combine five matching parts (same slot, same rarity) into one of the next rarity.
- Salvage parts you don’t need for Credits.
- Rare and better parts have bays for upgrades (Chip, Core, AI), which cleared stages sometimes drop.
Your hangar holds 100 parts. When it’s full, salvage or combine before opening more.
Your ship
Each ship has six part slots: Weapon, Heavy and Systems on one side, Hull, Armor and Support on the other.
- Level up your ship with Credits (and Step Energy from level 30). Each level gives a skill point, and the ship’s look upgrades every ten levels, up to 100.
- Each ship has six skills that open as it levels. Two fly at once; tap one to swap it.
- Unlock more ships with Step Energy: Falcon (your first), Viper, Halo (a healer), Bastion (a tank), Phantom and Orion. Pick which one you Fly, and take up to two along as companions.
Battles
Tap Challenge on Home, or pick a stage on the Battle map. The preview shows the enemy waves, the rewards, and your power against the stage’s, with a verdict from Easy to Too strong. Then Launch.
Battles fight themselves: your ships shoot, target and use their skills automatically. What you control:
- Consumables: Repair kit, Overcharge and Emergency reboot. Tap one in the tray, or leave AUTO on and the game uses them for you.
- Speed: 1x or 2x. REPLAY repeats a stage automatically after a win.
- Retreat, if a fight is lost. You leave with no reward, and items you used stay spent.
If your ship goes down, you can use a reboot or revive with a little Step Energy.
Each sector has 10 stages: nine of three waves each, then a boss stage that ends with the Dreadnought. Clear stage 10 to unlock the next tier: Normal, Hard, Nightmare, Hell and Inferno. Harder tiers pay more. Replaying a cleared stage pays less, but it’s a steady way to earn Credits.
Enemies
| Enemy | What it does |
|---|---|
| Scout drone | The basic enemy. |
| Dart interceptor | Fires fast but goes down quickly. |
| Bulwark | A tank: lots of health and armor. |
| Gunship | Few shots, but each one hits hard. |
| Phantom | Dodges about one shot in four. |
| Ram hauler | Slow, but its hits are the heaviest. |
| Dreadnought | The stage 10 boss. At half health it enrages and fires faster. |
Enemies get stronger with every stage and on harder tiers. Battles are automatic, so the answer is a better ship: stronger parts, higher levels, the right skills.
Reminders
In Settings you can turn on a daily goal reminder at a time you choose, and a streak alert at 8 pm when your streak is at risk.
Tips
- Claim yesterday’s Step Energy before the day ends.
- Hold a streak shield before a long streak gets valuable.
- A goal of 5,000 or 10,000 steps earns a better daily crate.
- Check the power verdict before you launch.
- Combine your duplicates: five Commons make an Uncommon.
